About us

Scalr is a relatively small startup—17 so far—with grand ambitions to provide resources to the world’s applications.

We are profitable, bringing in enough revenue with the paid Scalr.net service to see a positive cash flow. Not many other startups can say that.

Management

sebastian
Sebastian Stadil, Founder, CEO.
Sebastian is your typical munchkin, min-maxing everything he possibly can, and applying this special know-how to Scalr. When not being a complete nerd, he runs the Silicon Valley Cloud Computing Group, consisting of about 5500 members who meet monthly to trade war stories from operating infrastructure.
Prior to founding Scalr, Sebastian had a social life and enjoyed skiing, juggling, and getting his butt kicked playing rugby.
igor
Igor Savchenko, CTO.
Igor has worked with web technologies since the tender age of 15, building farms and load-balanced clusters for high-load web applications time and time again–giving him the right experience to be our CTO. He loves oysters, and insists the “O” in his title stands for it. He also loves going to the movies, especially when he can drag Nick along, kicking and screaming.

Engineering

Nick Toursky, Director of Support and Services.
Nickolas has more DevOps, Cloud, and Linux knowledge than Richard Stallman has beard. He hates going to the movies, so you’ll often find him in bars instead, probably with a pint of beer.
Marat Komarov, Director of Engineering.
Marat is responsible for Scalr’s development, architecture, and user interfaces, with a focus on the Scalarizr (Scalr guest agent). He enjoys traveling, mountain biking, and spending time with his son. Don’t let this healthy façade fool you though–he’s a true geek at heart, as attested by his stubborn defense of the “scalarizr” name.
Igor Vodiasov, Software Engineer.
Igor earned his stripes as a PHP and JavaScript engineer for more than 8 years, and works on the Scalr Core and UI as his boss’s right hand. He’s an amateur photographer, doesn’t like fixing bugs, and couldn’t be convinced to perform routine tasks for all the money in the world.
Dmitry Korsakov, Software Engineer.
Dima as we call him, found his passion for systems engineering in 7th grade. Born in snows of Siberia, Dima likes terrible jokes, awkward moments, fattening food, soap operas and Open Source Software. He is a hacker at heart and works on the scalarizr. When not working, you can find Dima reading books on Linguistics or beating his African drum.
Nick Demyanchuk, Software Engineer.
Nick holds a bachelor’s degree in information systems, which he has put to good use as a Linux automation engineer and Linux system administrator since 2006. He works on the scalarizr, but not as much as he likes to reinvent himself–daily. He hates consistency, and comes in every day with new passions and interests.
Yulia Varzar, Software Engineer.
Yulia is the proud owner of a bachelor’s degree in software development. She started out as a PHP and JavaScript engineer in 2008, but dropped the php when joining Scalr and now only does UI–pushing her javascript-fu to the limits. She loves being the only girl in the office, and devises diabolical new plans every day to make sure things stay this way.
Oleg Suharev, Test Engineer.
Oleg is responsible for the development of testing tools and functional testing of Scalr, and writes integration tests for the Scalarizr and Scalr Core. He also built some awesome automation and build tools. He likes active sports, and won Scalr’s annual “best smile” competition 3 times in a row. He doesn’t like to drink, so always ends up being the designated driver. Boo-hoo!
Sam Bukreev, Software Engineer.
Sam graduated with a bachelor’s degree in automation systems and control, and works on the scalarizr. His defining trait? He’s quiet. Very quiet. He likes being quiet, and he’s quite good at it. And what doesn’t he like? Not being quiet of course!
Vladimir Ryazanov, Software Engineer.
Vova as we call him, is known as Mister Awesome at Scalr. He’s working on a secret, yet-to-be-revealed product that is the brainchild of Marat. It’s going to be awesome. Mister Awesome-class awesome.
Anton Kovalyov, Graphics designer.
Anton designs all of Scalr’s icons, artwork, themes and styles. He’s the one to thank for the explanatory comic strip seen in the Scalr tour. He likes video games, 4chan, and lolcat pictures. He loves pranks, and can keep a poker face in all situations.

Marketing & Sales

Julien Rialan, Business development.
Julien leads business development and customer success at Scalr.
Before extracting money from our partnerships, Julien extracted it from the financial markets at Goldman Sachs. Except from technology, Julien believes in soccer.
Michel Galibert, Marketing.
Michel runs marketing for us at Scalr. You’ll always see him with his TI-83, calculating today’s conversion rates, and the return from the ad money he spent the day before.
Prior to Scalr, Michel worked at Google in the AdWords team.
Robin Piedeleu, Sales.
Robin runs our well oiled sales machine, sending in SWAT teams to coerce everyone and their mom to sign up to a paid plan.
Prior to Scalr, Robin coordinated sales and marketing for L’Occitane, a luxury beauty products company.
Paul Chapotet, Technical Sales.
Paul is the technical backbone of our marketing & sales team, keeping us technically correct–the best kind of correct.
Before becoming the Dwight Schrute of Scalr, Paul graduated from Supinfo and did freelance hackery.
Arvind Palanisamy, Customer success.
Arvind is in our marketing and sales team, ready to answer all your technical questions to ensure customer success.
After a rebellious youth taking arms against his nation’s stereotype of IT staffers, Arvind landed in a hardcore technology company: Scalr. Coincidence? We think not.
